Hendrick Raedani is Divisional Head: Alternative and Renewable Energy, Energy Department at City of Ekurhuleni
City of Ekurhuleni discusses the municipality's priorities and programs aimed at enabling and driving change within the energy system.
Internally, the municipality is generating its own electricity and implementing energy efficiency initiatives.
Externally, the municipality is accommodating customers who generate their own embedded power, currently totalling over 200 megawatts, by creating a framework for their integration onto the network and developing feeding tariffs.
The municipality is also incorporating the concept of willing buyers and allowing private generators to sell power across the grid to their end-users.
Additionally, the municipality is entering into long-term contracts to buy power directly from Independent Power Producers (IPPs) to adapt to the changing energy landscape.
