Thorpe Koorts is Acting Project Officer for the Tygerberg Central Hospital PPP in the Department of Health and Wellness at the Western Cape Government.
Thorpe Koorts details the construction of a new Central Hospital on the same campus as the aging Tygerberg Hospital in Cape Town, South Africa. Replacing the outdated facility, the project consists of three large hospitals.
The primary reason behind this development is the changing healthcare burden towards tertiary and specialist services, which necessitates the enhancement of these services in the province. The funding for the project is to be determined through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP).
Services from the old hospital will be transitioned into the new facility, with primary and secondary care moving to Belhar Hospital and advanced tertiary care being provided at the new Central Hospital.
Additionally, the academic services aim to become a national asset by collaborating with the three higher learning institutions situated on the campus.
